ACTS

Several concurrent events happening are prompting me to share the book of Acts with you. It started with Hwee Chin's sharing last Friday during the prayer meeting. She was in Kansas city International House of Prayer and saw amazing outpouring of the Holy Spirit especially in the children. They were praying fervently and worshipping in the Spirit. It was mind-blowing to Hwee Chin that children are capable of such intensity and standards of prayer and worship.

This week, my devotional materials also addresses the book of Acts and empowerment by the Holy Spirit. It does not seem to be a coincidence.

At my workplace, there are winds of change, bringing in a more spiritual climate as non-believers are hearing about the gospel and taking an interest in learning more about Jesus and the faith (via the Alpha course conducted here). There are even talks of starting a Bible Study group to follow up on these seekers.

I totally believe in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. It is not what we can do for Him but what He can do through us.Not being a bible scholar, I will not attempt to give you some expository on the book of Acts but will just encourage you to read it and see what the Holy Spirit is telling you. Please share with me your thoughts and ideas for the Children's Ministry worshipteam when you have done so.

I shall leave you with Acts 2:14-21

14Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! 16No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17" 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'Have a blessed week ahead!

A deliberate TURN of events

It is a brand new week again!

Yesterday was really interesting. On hindsight, it seemed to be a situation engineered by God for all of us involved to learn something. Due to a breakdown in communication, one of our worship-leaders did not get the message that he was leading worship yesterday. And neither did the musician.

It was an interesting, and even "deliberate" turn of events created by God. We ended up having Hwee Chin, who just returned from the US and filled with lots of divine inspiration, leading the worship session.

It was one of the best sessions. We did not have slides, no pre-meditated songs, no practice. We just came together as an assortment of people, to worship God.What was most impressive was the peace and joy we received out of it. In a situation where most would have freaked out, God completely took over. It such a reassuring feeling to experience God at work and knowing that you are powerless. Such peace to let Jesus carry the weight of the situation. Such a relief to let go and let the Holy Spirit take over the session.

We did not feel secure because Hwee Chin was leading or that there were so many worshipteam people around to help out...the security came from the knowledge that God is in Control. Indeed God is in control. He can turn a situation of depair into one of the best moments in life.

"The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD." -Psalm 146:10

I am not saying that we should stop preparing for worship in future and come every Sunday totally not ready. I am sure that God was also able to make use of Hwee Chin and whoever were present yesterday on the spot as they were ready at all times to be availed to His Purposes. However, it is important to have a spirit of surrender when preparing and during worship. When we totally let go, God can take over.

God bless your week ahead!
